Moving in the Sydney CBD: what to plan
Plan a CBD move around the building: in the 2021 Census, 99.2% of homes in the CBD suburb of Sydney were flats or apartments (ABS).
At the kerb. From Bathurst Street to Rawson Place, George Street is a pedestrian boulevard with light rail (City of Sydney), so a truck for that stretch waits in a side street, at a building dock or in a loading zone. Loading zones give 30 minutes to load or unload unless the sign sets its own limit (NSW Road Rules).
In the building. Strata by-laws are set building by building (NSW Government): check with your building manager which lift you’ll use and when the dock is free.

Not on the stretch from Bathurst Street to Rawson Place, which the City of Sydney has made a pedestrian boulevard. Light rail runs the length of George Street, from Haymarket to Circular Quay. For a building on that stretch, the truck waits in a side street, at the building’s dock or in a loading zone, chosen before moving day.
It does if your household is eligible. The City of Sydney excludes new or converted apartment buildings approved since May 2000 (May 1996 in the former South Sydney area) and buildings with on-site visitor parking. A permit also only works where signs say “permit holders excepted”. So in the CBD we usually plan on a building dock or a loading zone.
In the hours on its sign, for up to 30 minutes of loading or unloading unless that sign allows a different time (NSW Road Rules, rule 179). Hours vary by street: City of Sydney traffic decisions set one Lime Street zone at 6am to 8pm on weekdays and one on Wynyard Street at 7am to 6pm. We check yours.

A City of Sydney visitor parking permit isn’t an option for an office, because non-residential premises are excluded, so the truck works from the building’s loading dock or a nearby loading zone.
