Moving in the Eastern Suburbs: what to plan
The Eastern Suburbs are split between four councils, and each treats a removal truck differently, so the plan starts with your address.
Visitor permits. In the City of Sydney, which covers Rushcutters Bay and Paddington south of Oxford Street, a removalist’s truck can use a visitor permit if your household is eligible (City of Sydney). Woollahra Council’s visitor permits don’t cover vehicles over 3 tonnes (Woollahra Council), and Waverley (Waverley Council) and Randwick (Randwick City Council) don’t issue them for trucks.
Loading zones. Anywhere in NSW, a truck can use one while it loads or unloads, for up to 30 minutes unless the sign says otherwise (NSW Road Rules).
So before we quote the hours, we check which council your street is in and where the truck can stop. Updated September 2026

Wherever you’re moving, the access at both addresses is what sets the hours in your quote.

It depends on the suburb. Waverley covers Bondi and Bondi Junction, Woollahra covers Double Bay, Woollahra and most of Vaucluse and Rose Bay, and Randwick covers Randwick and Coogee. Rushcutters Bay is in the City of Sydney, and Paddington is split at Oxford Street. Tell us both addresses when you ask for a quote, and we’ll check the rules at each end.
Yes. NSW Road Rules (rule 179) let a truck stop in a loading zone for up to 30 minutes while it’s loading or unloading, unless a sign sets a different limit, and that applies in all four councils. A full home rarely fits in 30 minutes, so we also plan a driveway, a building dock or an unrestricted kerb.
Yes, on City2Surf day. On 9 August 2026, roads between Double Bay and North Bondi closed from 7am and roads in Bondi Junction from 9am, with clearways from 1am along the route (Woollahra Council). Bondi Beach and Bondi Junction were expected to reopen by 4pm. Check the race date before booking a weekend move near the route.
Book a council clean-up before moving day, so the crew only moves what you keep. Randwick Council gives residents six free clean-ups a year, each up to one cubic metre. Woollahra collects on a scheduled date, with items out the Sunday night before, and the City of Sydney picks up bulky items you book online.

Packing is quoted separately, so you choose whether the crew packs for you. If it does, the packing time and any materials, such as boxes, paper, tape and bubble wrap, are listed in your quote. Furniture and appliances are wrapped for the move at no extra charge.
